Wales the Country of Castles
Wales the Country of Castles
by Annette Dixon
Back in 1990, I had an opportunity to study with a famous Irish Director and chose not to do this since the director would be filming in England and I would have to study with his assistant. This would have cost me $3200 including room and board for five weeks in Dublin, Ireland. I purchased an EuroPass ticket and used the country transportation system, local trains, buses, ferries throughout Ireland, Scotland and Wales. I flew to Dublin stayed there to visit some people and toured throughout the country for several weeks. “People asked me what nationality I was and I would state American. |
They said, ‘but what is your ancestry.’ I said Italian, Oh they were thrilled to know that I had traveled so extensively in most of their 26 counties and I wasn’t Irish.” For the next two weeks I traveled to Edinburgh and Glasgow, Scotland and Cardiff in Wales. After traveling for five weeks, I realized the women in Wales admired that I was traveling alone. I felt very liberated being with them.
Cardiff is a beautiful city with several of the 614 Castles in Wales. Wales has the most castles in the world. When I was there, men sang on radio and in the pubs and sounded like Tom Jones. Wales was popular |
since 250,000 B.C. and still is the most industrialized country, mostly brain power
as of today. It is the only UK country that gives an Assembly Learning Grant for financial support to students in higher and further education. Wales has beautiful beaches and shoreline and they are easily accessible within the 20.732Kn. With only 2.9 million people in Wales, you won’t find an unpleasant surrounding, it is nice to see the mountains on one side of Cardiff and beaches on the other side. If you need more people and area space around you, just remember, you are linked to England by land and air, so you can enjoy seclusion, or travel to England. www.visitwales.com |
